Framed Face Autostereogram by Dominic Alves, 2009

Yes, this is indeed one of those “magic eye” images popularized in the 1990’s.  (I still think these things are neat, even if I am pretty hit-or-miss at being able to see them.)  “Autostereogram” is a new word for me, but it makes sense if you break the word down.

Incidentally, the “Mallrats” (1995) scene to which I’ve linked above is a blooper.  The image contained by the poster at the mall is not a sailboat; it’s a pattern of different geometric shapes.  None of the characters could have seen a sailboat.  (Seriously, pause the image on a laptop and look.)

If the below image is inscrutable to you, you can check out (or share) the larger image over at Wikimedia Commons.

Rest easy, Stan Lee.

Jesus, what would the world have been like without him?

The scene below is his brief appearance opposite Jason Lee in Kevin Smith’s “Mallrats” (1995).

I missed it.  It was playing for free, too!

It was the least of Smith’s “View Askewniverse” films, but I would have loved to see one on the big screen.  I’ve seen all of the V.A. movies on either VHS or DVD.

Grandin Theatre, March 2017

The nonprofit Grandin Theatre looks like a hell of a fun place for a film buff.  The building dates from 1932, and upcoming screenings include  “To Have and Have Not,” “The Trouble With Harry,” and Kevin Smith’s “Mallrats.”  The theater is screening “The Boondock Saints” for free on St. Patrick’s Day.
