“Sir,” Ante Wessels, 2017

“In the autumn of 2016, I read that at places around the North Pole the temperature was 20 degrees Celsius (36 F) higher than in other years. With such a rise in temperature we can expect the pole to melt rapidly. In a dark fantasy, I saw the end of humanity, not in a distant future, but during my lifetime. Fear overwhelmed me. The anxiety attack lasted about 10 days. The experience was intense, as if I had felt all the fear people feel over climate change. First painting in the series “tempest.”  50 x 50 cm, oil on linen.” — A. Wessels
