Three sources of great new poetry

To mark National Poetry Month, I’m sharing my favorite places to find new poetry from up and coming writers.  All three of these communities are great places to meet readers, writers, colleagues and friends:

April is the cruellest month …

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.

— from T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land”

April is National Poetry Month! Here are 30 ways to celebrate! And some of the are damn cool.

I can’t decide which is my favorite. I am particularly interested in the “poetry on the pavement” and “poetry in an unexpected place” suggestions, because those are the most Joker-esque. (Or maybe Batman-esque, considering the Dark Knight’s burning emblem bridge trick at the end of the third film.)

Rest assured, I will be combining these activities with caffeine abuse, manic episodes, and at least some degree of sociopathy.

I also propose a propose a new tradition for National Poetry Month — “Prank a Publisher Day.” So everyone, let’s decide which day that will be, and then let’s somehow punk Reg Davey. Because that bloke’s had it coming for a while now.

My latest mention in the University of Mary Washington Magazine’s “Class Notes”

I am also quite grateful to see that the University of Mary Washington Magazine’s “Class Notes” section mentioned Illumen Magazine’s publication of my “Three Dreamers” set of poems this past winter.

Eric Robert Nolan in the University of Mary Washington Magazine

I am honored tonight to find that “The Dogs Don’t Bark In Brooklyn Any More” was featured in the “Book Report” section of the Spring 2014 Issue of the University of Mary Washington Magazine. I honestly feel that seeing this first novel featured alongside the books of my alumni and the esteemed university faculty is the nicest such honor I’ve received.

I’d like to extend my humble thanks to Director of University Publications Neva Trenis and her staff.

Whoa.

If you are not watching NBC’s “Hannibal,” then you don’t know what you’re missing.

That is all.

And a blood-colored moon …

And a blood-colored moon
sets in the West
Like a round red blade —
its scarlet “C”
meets the trees
before it rests.

(Seriously, folks. Right now. If you live in NY, go look at it!)
