Now here is an interesting find. It’s a 1959 audio recording of Flannery O’Connor reading her (quite disturbing) short story, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find.”

As if I weren’t eager enough for “Westworld’s” return on April 22, Sunday’s ad during the Super Bowl was high art. That music you hear is Kanye West’s “Runaway,” given “Westworld’s” trademark piano treatment.
I actually don’t care much for the longer trailer that follows it, which I now know was released previously. It feels disconnected, and that song is positively grating.

A dear friend sent this to me partly as a joke, I think, given my affinity for tales about rabbits. I still wonder about that fate of giant white nomadic hare that frequented my yard for a while after I first arrived in Roanoke.
It’s a great piece. Nishino Yoichi is a contemporary artist, but I can’t determine the date of the illustration, or even its title in English.

I want you to know
one thing.
You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.
Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.
If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.
If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.
But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

The following is a totally real comment I just received on a blog post:
“You guys want to hear something totally wild?! is truly great! I wish Naturally i realized over it quick. Having neighbors we each consider it also in relation to week. Which it is really great that you really men and women discuss it too! Owing!”
Owing indeed, my friend. Owing indeed.

The February 2018 Issue of Peeking Cat Poetry Magazine is out, and is available both for purchase and for free in PDF format. If you’d like to read my poem, “This Windy Morning,” you can find it on page 14.
Thank you once again to Editor Sam Rose for allowing me to share my work!
