“We’re Gonna Rock Down To … Electric ROAD?!?!”

Somewhere, Eddy Grant is crying right now.

I expected better of you, Roanoke.

I thought these were pretty neat.

So I finally figured out why I kept seeing blue pinwheels throughout Roanoke.

April was National Child Abuse Awareness Month.  I kept seeing these “pinwheel gardens” in front of businesses — mostly in Roanoke, though the one below was in Salem.

It seems to me to be a clever and effective marketing device.  Whoever came up with it deserves a lot of credit.

WALKER LANE.

A friend of mine lives on this street in Salem, Virginia.

She says the rents are dirt cheap, but it sucks having to keep the windows boarded up to keep the zombies out.

Can you imagine if the cross street was named “Grimes Avenue?”  That would be F%*#ing EPIC.

Chestnut Street in Salem, Virginia.

Looking north past Main Street.  That church you see is First United Methodist.

Update: I asked my friends what kind of trees those are.  The consensus is that they’re cherry blossoms.

Union Street, Salem, Virginia

I’m a Yankee.  Sooner or later, I had to find myself on Union Street.

The house you see in the third and fourth photos has just GOT to be haunted.

And that giant sawed-off tree trunk would make an INCREDIBLE fortress for G.I. Joes.

A slightly unkempt and overgrown back lot … (Photo)

… in Salem, Virginia.  It had such character that I had to snap a photo.

This shot was taken from Calhoun Street; the front of the building is a storefront facing Main.
