This is all wonderful work, but Kaci Skiles Laws’ “Sarah’s Ghost” is absolutely affecting. Wow.

Indie Writers’ Digest features my poetry.

Indie Writers’ Digest in the United Kingdom recently invited me to submit a few of my poems, along with some comments about my journey as a poet.

I really am honored.  This is an outstanding magazine devoted specifically to independent creatives, and Editor and Publisher Bryony Petersen is a true pleasure to work with.

You can find the May 20th Issue right here.  My composition about my writing career can be found on page 29; a selection of my short poems appears on page 30.

Thank you again, Bryony, for introducing me to to the wonderful creative community of Indie Writers’ Digest!

There are mourning doves in my neighborhood!

There was a pair of them who perched right outside my window a couple of weeks ago.  I’d hoped they were building a nest, but no luck.  (They had understandable concerns about having a shanty Irish neighbor.)

But they’re still around!  I could hear them a few minutes ago, sounding their call as they seem prone to doing near the end of the day.  Mourning doves and whippoorwills are the two birds whose song will always transport me back to being a kid in rural-suburban Long Island.  They’re little lyrical time machines.

Memorial Day 2025

I am feeling thankful this Memorial Day to brave souls who gave their lives so that mine could be free.

Members of the American Legion, Boys Scouts, Veteran biker groups, and others assisted in the 32nd annual Memorial Day ceremony. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Christina Wheeler/Released)
