I got some nice news a little while ago — Down in the Dirt magazine has included my poem “The Rough, Violet Stone” in its newest anthology, entitled The Final Frontier. (The poem previously appeared in the magazine’s August 2022 issue on the first of the month.)
You can buy a copy of the new book on Amazon at the link below:
The Final Frontier
Or, you can read the entire anthology online right here.
As always, I am grateful to Editor Janet Kuypers for selecting my work for both this outstanding magazine and its subsequent poetry collections.
The August 2022 issue of Down in the Dirt has arrived, and in it you can find my poem “The Rough, Violet Stone.” (Thanks, as always, to Editor Janet Kuypers for selecting my work for this outstanding literary magazine.) The magazine’s theme this month is “My Name Is Equality.”
You can purchase a copy of the issue at Amazon right here, or you can read it online here at the Scars Publications website.
I have an extra reason to be thankful this holiday — Scars Publications again selected a poem of mine to appear in its newest anthology. “The Writer,” which Scars published in the May 2020 edition of Down in the Dirt magazine, was included in the Inside the Box anthology that Scars released yesterday. (The anthology includes creative works selected from over the past year from both Down in the Dirt, and its sister publication, cc&d magazine.)
You can order Inside the Box right here over at Amazon.
I’m once again grateful to Editor Janet Kuypers for allowing me to contribute to an outstanding literary collection.
I got some great news tonight — I’ll get to see my poetry featured in Scars Publications’ Down in the Dirt magazine for a third time. My poem “The Writer” will appear in the May 2020 issue.
The poem will also appear this week at the Scars website. (The publisher produces both Down in the Dirt and cc&d magazines.) Finally, “The Writer” might also be featured in future Down in the Dirt collections; the magazine regularly reprints selected poems in anthology format. (I was lucky enough last March to see my poem “hens staring upward” reprinted in The Flickering Light anthology following its initial publication.)
Thank you, Editor Janet Kuypers, for allowing me to join the range of talented voices that are regularly showcased by Down in the Dirt!

Down in the Dirt magazine, March-April 2019 Issue
(As I mentioned here at the blog on Wednesday, you can also view a free online version of the March-April 2019 issue right here at the Scars Publications website.)
Here’s a big thanks to Editor Janet Kuypers for allowing me to share my voice with Down in the Dirt’s wonderfully talented community of writers and artists!
Hey, gang. I am honored to share here that my poem “hens staring upward” was published today in the March-April 2019 issue of Down in the Dirt magazine. You can find it online right here. The theme of this issue is “Parallel Universe.”
Volume 163 will also be available in print over at Amazon. (Print editions of Down in the Dirt run as 100+ page 6″x 9″ perfect-bound books.) Issues are typically published simultaneously in print and online format, but Scars Publications explained that there was a delay with the printing; I’ll give you a heads up when ordering information becomes available.
Scars Publications also releases an annual collection of writings selected from both Down in the Dirt and its sister publication, cc&d magazine. If I’m fortunate enough to see “hens staring upward” selected for the annual volume as well, I’ll be certain to let you know.
I received some terrific news a little while ago — Down in the Dirt magazine has selected my poem, “hens staring upward,” for publication in its March/April 2019 issue. The issue will be released on April 1, and will be available both in print and online. (The poem should also appear online this weekend at the Scars Publications website — I’ll post a link when it becomes available.)
Down in the Dirt is a diverse and wonderful literary magazine, and I am grateful to Editor Janet Kuypers for allowing my work to be featured alongside its many talented contributors.
“hens staring upward” was previously published by Dead Snakes and by Peeking Cat Poetry Magazine.
I hope you all are looking forward to a great weekend!
