Impspired includes one of my poems in the “Love, Loss and Cardiac Issues” special fundraising anthology.

I am truly honored to have a poem selected for a special project undertaken by Impspired in the United Kingdom — a new literary collection entitled Love, Loss and Cardiac Issues.  The anthology is composed of creative work from people throughout the world whose lives have been touched by loss due to heart disease.  Impspired will donate the profits from the collection to cardiac research.

The cover art that you see was created by the talented Poppy M. E. Brill, a 15-year-old student from Lincolnshire, UK.

The poem of mine selected was my prose love poem, “Her Smile Was Silver Jupiter.”  I am grateful indeed to Editor Steve Cawte for allowing my work to be a part of this important publication.

Love, Loss and Cardiac Issues can be ordered right here from Amazon.

Newsday prints my letter about the FBI’s search of Donald Trump’s home

I just found out that my recent letter to the editor about the FBI’s search of Mar-a-Lago was printed in the Sunday edition of New York’s NewsdayYou can find it right here.

Thanks once again to Newsday’s editorial staff for allowing me to share my opinion through this outstanding regional newspaper.

[smiles and nods silently]

Totally true fact — as a New Yorker living in The South, I do NOT always understand what people are saying to me. The accents, the idioms …

I CAN’T keep asking people to clarify or repeat things every time this happens. This town would grind to a halt.

So if I respond inappropriately or not at all to something you’ve said to me, Roanokers, please know that I can’t help it. A lot of your upbeat utterances kinda blend together for me. We could be talking about American Idol, the Spanish American War, three-cheese omelettes, the Nikkei Stock Index, whatever. I JUST DON’T KNOW.

The Bristol Herald Courier prints my latest letter to the editor.

The Bristol Herald Courier today printed my latest letter to the editor — this one is about the F.B.I. executing a search warrant at Donald Trump’s Florida home.  You can find it right here:

Throwback Thursday: Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” (1975)

Believe it or not, I can remember Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” from its heyday — maybe not 1975, when it was released by Capitol Records, but definitely from the ensuing few years when it so often played on the radio.  (It got lots of airtime, as it was a hit with both mainstream and country audiences.)  This song will always remind me of my very early childhood.

It’s a catchy tune, really.  But it is a bit of an earworm.  Hum it at your won risk.

(It’s early.)

Down in the Dirt magazine includes “The Rough, Violet Stone” in its newest anthology.

I got some nice news a little while ago — Down in the Dirt magazine has included my poem “The Rough, Violet Stone” in its newest anthology, entitled The Final Frontier.  (The poem previously appeared in the magazine’s August 2022 issue on the first of the month.)

You can buy a copy of the new book on Amazon at the link below:

Or, you can read the entire anthology online right here.

As always, I am grateful to Editor Janet Kuypers for selecting my work for both this outstanding magazine and its subsequent poetry collections.

It’s a Shakespun.

I keep wanting to refer to Donald Trump’s Florida home as “Mar-Iago.”

But I’m afraid that only theater nerds would get the joke.

Reality check.

Following the FBI raid last night of his Mar-a-Lago home, Trump and his allies are claiming he is a victim of “the weaponization of the justice system” and “political persecution.”

Recall, please, that this man launched his first presidential bid with the ubiquitous slogan “lock her up.”  He simply wished to have his opponent imprisoned.

It was an early red flag that he was … y’know, fucking insane.  And an aspiring tyrant.

Also?  FBI Director Christopher Wray was a Trump nominee.  He is a Republican.
